In this meeting, Dr. Vaezi expressed pleasure regarding the visit of the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, stating that: “The bilateral relations between Iran and Lithuania have always been great and constructive, and it was because of this trend that Iran was among the first nations to officially recognize Lithuania’s Independence.
Vaezi Continued by emphasizing on the importance of mending the relations between Iran and Lithuania in the post-sanctions era, and said: “Iran is interested in expanding relations with the European Union and its members, including Lithuania.”
The ICT Minister referred to the Lithuania’s 16th place in the global ICT ranking, stating that: “We are well aware of the fact that Lithuania has made extensive progress in various communication and telecommunication fields, especially in regard to e-governance, network security, and software development.”
Vaezi went on to say that: “The Iranian government is ready to collaborate with Lithuania in areas such as telecommunication, IT, software, e-government, post services, e-commerce, and network frequency.”
He referred to the important role of the private sector in ICT development and progress, expressing that: “We can organize a joint committee between the Iranian and Lithuanian Communication Ministries to follow up on the implementation of our bilateral cooperation.”
In this meeting the Lithuanian Foreign Minister also stressed on the importance of communication and information technology sector in human relations, stating that: “We are fully prepared to collaborate with Iran in all those topics.”
Linkevičius included that: “In addition to the public sector, our private sector is also prepared and interested to cooperate with Iran in various fields of communication and telecommunication.”
He stated the readiness of his country for establishment of a specialized work-group for studying the joint areas of ICT cooperation between the two countries, preparing a comprehensive collaboration framework including data exchange, research and development; add value software and application manufacturing companies, and development of e-services.
The Lithuanian FM included: “The development of telecommunication networks and ITC development programs in Iran are very commendable.”
He expressed the willingness and readiness of his country to cooperate in all the areas proposed by the ICT Ministry.
