ICT Public Relation Center reports that Dr. Vaezi, at the conclusion of his meeting with the Armenian Communications Minister and his accompanying delegation, addressed reporters, commenting on the progressing relations between two countries in various political, cultural, and social aspects, and stated that: “Just recently we held the 13th session of the Joint Economic Commission in Yerevan, where four cooperation agreements were signed, paving the way for development of relations.”
He underscored the constructive and positive atmosphere of today’s meeting, expressing that: “We had good discussions on various aspects of topics of mutual interest, which both parties agreed on.”
Dr. Vaezi referred to the fact that during past weeks, special task-groups had been working on studying mutual areas of cooperation regarding telecommunication, post, internet and data services, adding that: “We have arrived at good agreements on data and internet cooperation, which will quadruple the volume of data transfer between our countries.”
The ICT Minister also reported of the holding of Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission, and said: “In this commission, we shall pursue our bilateral cooperation in Internet, Post, Telecommunication, and e-Commerce, to their implementation stage.”
In regard to the agreement on direct communication between the Ministers of both countries, Vaezi stated that: “We agreed that the ministers of Iran and Armenia will meet once a year alternately in Tehran and Yerevan, to study the progress of mutual programs.”
The Iranian Communication Minister referred to the establishment of 300 thousand minutes of phone communication per month between Iran and Armenia, saying that: “In this meeting, in addition to developing postal relations between our countries, the parties emphasized on development of International Post relations; and we also agreed on holding a stamp exhibition.”
Dr. Vaezi referred to various opportunities for postal and e-commerce cooperation between Iran and Armenia, and said: “We expect that the people of both nations will soon be able to purchase goods and products via internet, to be distributed by post services.”
To realize this possibility, he stated the necessity of exchanging an agreement between Iranian Post Co. and Post Bank on one side with their Armenian counterparts, and the establishment of e-commerce facilities between both countries.
Dr. Vaezi expressed his expectation for the establishment of direct telecommunication connections between two countries, informing of an agreement for holding a three-way conference at ministerial level between Iran, Iraq and Armenia, saying: “We have prepared facilities so that these three countries can benefit from voice, data, and telecommunication services.”
Vaezi also referred to agreements made in regard to establishing closer ties between the private sectors of both countries, saying that: “We expect that an opportunity will arise for exchanging experiences between the private and public companies of both nations.”
Gagik Beglaryan, the Armenian Minister of Transport and Communications also emphasized on the efforts of both ministries for achieving the present agreements, stating that: “We were successful in achieving certain objectives within our cooperation framework, and we expect further development of these accomplishments.”
He welcomed the establishment of direct telecommunication links with Iran, adding that: “I am confident that our technical infrastructure will allow us to implement this opportunity.”
Beglaryan referred to Armenia’s progress regarding e-Commerce, stating that: “We hope that the people of both friendly and brother nations will benefit from these facilities.”
He extended his thanks to the Iranian Minister of Communication and information Technology, emphasized on the importance of today’s session, and invited Dr. Vaezi for an official visit to Armenia.
