According to PR’s report, Mr. Eng. Jahangard, speaking in presence of Provincial Governor of Gilan and a number of public managers, added that: “The net worth of global ICT market amounts to 2600 Billion Euros, out of which 60 percent is the share of communication sector and 40 percent the share of IT.”
Jahangard referred to Data’s 200 Terabyte global traffic, saying: “Data traffic in Iran is 24 tenth of a Terabyte and we are making efforts to increase it more quickly.”
Stating that according to recent projections, by the year 2020 we are going to reach the level of 50 Billion communications, Jahangard included: “By 2020 all communications will be electronic and we shall witness its effects in all sectors.”
Jahangard emphasized on the global investments in this sector, saying that: “Disregarding investment in this sector will show itself in economy and we hope we can fill this gap as quickly as possible.”
Head of the Information Technology Organization referred to the five step increase in Iran’s ranking in regard to ITC indicators, and said: “We must work on increasing access and accessibility.”
He referred to the mandates of the 5th development plan, adding: “According to this mandate, 18 million connections, 42 Terabytes of data traffic, and 5 Terabytes of international communication must take place in the National Information Network, when, at the commencement of the new government, less than 15 percent had been realized.”
Jahangard included: “At the moment, in land communications, connections have tripled, and regarding mobile networks, by the introduction of 3G, about 20 million smart connections have been established in the network.”
Referring to the original design of the communication network of Iran in the past, he said: “We are at the brink of a strategic change in the whole telecommunication network of Iran, where any given city will have a direct and firsthand connection point with the optic-fiber network, and that we will be the end of telecommunication disruptions.”
In another part of his address, Jahangard mentioned the huge volumes of data being exchanged and transferred in the network, expressing that: “Data generation and establishing connections between them is the outmost wealth.”
He also mentioned that the total global internet communication is being handled by just 13 servers, adding that: “From May 2015, by copying the traffic server from Netherland into our country we managed to establish and handle 45 million connections locally, which is something very important and crucial from Iran’s economic and security aspects.”
He underlined the increasing capacity of the country’s infrastructure in optic-fiber network and the capacity of data transfer network, stating that: “At the beginning of the 11th government 90 percent of our data was being transferred outside the country which through increasing the hosting capacity has been reduced to 40 percent and we have also managed to achieve the first ranking position of data hosting in the Western Asia region.”
He emphasized on the ongoing efforts directed at designing the framework and structure of the national information network, saying: “Iran’s Management and Programming Organization is already preparing the country’s services identification and categorization document, where already 1400 state services have been identified and categorized in 14 clusters and each cluster will be presented at least in one unified window.”
He added: “In this regard, services in sectors such as medicine, agriculture, customs, commerce, and insurance are either becoming operational or are already active.”
Jahangard reported of technical and financial aid being offered to knowledge-based businesses at a national level, and said: “Providing low interest rate loans to these businesses are on the agenda of the government in general and also the ICT Ministry.”
Jahangard concluded his remarks by mentioning the preparation of a regulatory document for development and advancement of ICT applications, expressing hope that: “Through realization of these objectives, we can achieve more vigorous and swift administration system, decrease expenses, transform the country’s industry and services, increase efficiency and productivity in all sectors, promote and increase knowledge-based job and business opportunities, reform resource-based economy, strengthen economic justice and fairness, and promote Iranian and Islamic culture.”
